you may remember that a month ago (goodness am i behind) was my sisters birthday. the very exciting 21 in fact! the celebration began with me arriving in fort worth right in time to make her a delicious macaroni lunch. this was not just any macaroni. it is one that is very special to us. annies peace macaroni. we would eat it a lot in high school because it is by far the best and then it disappeared from all grocery store shelves. that is until karens birthday when she found it a few days prior at central market. it is different than all other kinds not only because it comes in a tie dyed box and has noodles shaped like peace signs, but because it uses parmesan cheese.
oh gosh how i have missed it! the deliciousness was just as i remembered and caused me to immediately wish it was easier to find and much cheaper.
i then made her a lovely cake that was perfect for welcoming spring.
i then set up an inflatable cake to make it even more of a celebration!
and before getting ready for dinner, we sang happy birthday and indulged in some very delicious ice cream cake! i know it seems like a lot of cake was involved, but it is impossible to have too much.
we then headed to one of my personal favorite places (but never actually go to because its expensive) called piola. everything i have ever had there has been amazing, and this time was no different. if you are ever in the fort worth area, i highly suggest trying it.
and to continue the trend, dinner would not be complete without a surprise birthday cake for dessert!
it was very delicious. especially the strawberry.
after dinner, karen and i took a quick little break involving some champagne and then headed downtown to meet up with some of her friends to continue the celebration! we first went to petes, where i was very upset that karen wouldnt let me have her go sit on top of the pianos, and then headed to the library where there were great drink deals (2 dollar wells if i remember correctly). i of course had to buy her a birthday shot, what kind of birthday would it be without a shot?! i told the bar tender to make 2 of any three dollar shot he felt like making. i think this one was a raspberry kamikaze, not quite my favorite, but better than the regular kamikaze.
we ended eating the cake i made her before heading to the flea market that weekend. i must say, it was the perfect breakfast!
i love celebrating birthdays so much! i am looking forward to making some more delicious cakes!
love.
