love birds!

i am sad handsome was only able to visit for the weekend, but i guess that is how it goes when you have to work. one of my favorite parts of his visit was being able to show him everything i have collected for the wedding (and i think he enjoyed it too)! our theme is love birds, so i have tons of awesome birds, birdcages and bird nests! and by tons i mean that i have every single decoration for the wedding! everything i wanted appeared for me the one time i went shopping. i love everything so much and cant wait to actually set it up for the wedding! here are a few sneak peaks at what i have!

watermelon candy

after i got off work one afternoon a few weeks ago, i decided to celebrate passing my boards by trying a cupcake from cupcakes on kavanaugh. i had seen this place a few days either when i was exploring different boutiques along the same street, but was not feeling the urge to eat a cupcake. (i dont know what was wrong with me at the time.)

i went in initially craving my favorite cuppies and joe cupcake, the boom boom pow. there were about twelve flavors to choose from, none of which appealing to me like the boom boom pow. i decided to take a leap and try their watermelon cupcake because it sounded fresher and lighter than the other flavors. it is just way too hot outside to eat anything that isnt refreshing. i chose to get my cupcake to go and went home to enjoy it.

i was nervous about my first bite since i have never tried a watermelon cupcake before. this first bite then laughed in my face about being nervous! it was very delicious, but tasted more like watermelon candy. the cake was perfectly moist and the frosting, my favorite part, was absolutely perfect! i would definitely eat this cupcake again! if you do not like watermelon candy, i would not suggest it. it is very very sweet and possibly too sweet for some people.

so after this first trip, i am hooked! who knows what flavor i will try next!

handsome is coming to visit tomorrow and i cant wait! it has been 32 days since we have seen each other and i am so glad that i dont have to wait much longer!

door searching

handsome and i went on a search for the perfect door at the habitat for humanity restore and found some that had great potential! and i also wore my second 30 for 30 outfit! woo hoo!

the skirt that i am wearing is actually a dress. all i did to make it into a skirt was fold the bottom half of it up. it fit tight enough so that it didnt require pins or anything! it was a nice change from the way i normally wear it.

shirt: LOFT
skirt: birdie (handmade)
shoes: target
belt: antique garden
bag: LOFT

isnt the door wonderful?! im super excited about it!

number one!

i am excited to share my first 30 for 30 outfit! i wore this outfit the day after i moved to little rock. handsome and i went to eat some lunch and enjoy an ice cream cone before i had to take him to the airport. i wish he was able to stay longer!

this photo was taken in front of my new favorite store, box turtle, before i knew i would love it so much! the dress i wore to the wine festival and our engagement dinner is from here. i also got a few other super cute things including magnets and snail mail, but that is another story!

shirt: american apparel
skirt: thrifted
scarf: thrifted
shoes: chacos
bag: LOFT
sunglasses: thrifted

we ate at a place called u.s. pizza co. i know pizza and queso do not go together, but i had a craving and we had to try it! i thought the queso was very yummy, but the chips were not good at all. they were those heavy corn chips that you would expect to be served with your queso if you were at a bar. you had to put a lot of queso on the chips in order to try and hide the taste of the chip. it would have been perfect if lighter chips were served with it!

the pizza was very good. the crust was perfect! it was thin, but still fluffy. what i liked the most was the amount of cheese that was on it. there was a pretty patio on the side of the building that was surrounded by plants. i think this would be a very enjoyable place when the weather is not so hot. i will eat here again, but i would like to try other pizza places too.

and now for a funny story! handsome makes me sign the receipts when we go to restaurants. i am not sure why this is, but it is always how we do it. i always sign his name, but for some reason i had issues this day and signed my name. i realized after i put my first name and decided that kirsten kind of looked like preston and then finished the name with petty. handsome wanted to document the first time i signed my name as kirsten petty haha! it was an accident. we laughed about it for awhile and still bring it up sometimes! (this was before we were engaged, but handsome had the ring ready!)

we went across the street to a place called river city and got some very affordable ice cream cones! i got cookies and cream and handsome got strawberry (i think he may have a strawberry obsession). it was very refreshing since it was so hot outside! i did kind of wish i had gotten strawberry though. i feel that it would have had a fresher and colder taste to it.

mountain love with my love: day three

we woke up and began packing things up so that we could check out and head to white water rafting when we realized that we needed to eat breakfast. we went down to the fancy restaurant inside of our hotel and naturally, we ordered the same thing: a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, bacon and avocado. there was the most amazing view of the mountains and the golf course for us to enjoy while we waited for our food and while we ate. just a small fact: the snow capped mountains in the background of the first photo are the mountains on the coors light bottle! the sandwich was delish and hit the spot! it actually made me feel way overly stuffed which was strange for me since queso wasnt even involved, but at least i knew i would not become starving while rafting!

i was super excited to go white water rafting and also super frightened. the safety talk at the beginning made it even scarier! it was filled with talk about how to safely float in the water when you fly out, how to avoid fallen trees without drowning and how to get back into the boat if youre lucky enough to fall in and stay close to the raft. once we were on the river it wasnt terrifying at all and was really fun even during the scary parts. the one aspect i did not like about the whole experience was the nasty booties we had to wear. they really grossed me out since so many people have worn them and mine were still moist when i had to put them on. i just tried to forget about it and focus on other things. we decided that the next time we go rafting we are going to go to a part of the river that is a bit more difficult. now that i know what to expect, it should not be as terrifying! i will also not forget sunglasses next time. it was very difficult to row and impossible to see when water pelted my unprotected eyeballs!

we went back to the hotel to enjoy some time at the pool before heading back to denver. our hotel had a slide in it and it was super fun! we played on it awhile, enjoyed the water for awhile and laid out for awhile. and then we decided we both needed telluride shirts. it was our engagement weekend afterall!

we bought our telluride shirts and then found a little sweet shop to get some lunch. we shared some friend macaroni (my first time to try it ever!), i got a chicken sandwich and handsome got a burger. we also decided to split an ice cream cone for dessert!

we are both wearing our telluride shirts in this last photo, but you cant really see them. i guess it means we will have to take another matching photo when we visit each other again!

telluride was definitely the best vacation and engagement weekend i could have ever imagined! i am so glad that we will always have an excuse to visit such a beautiful place again and again!

mountain love with my love: day two

handsome had talked with the front desk weeks before our trip about them setting up white water rafting for us on saturday morning. the front desk ended up failing at that, but it ended up working out better than we originally planned because we did not have to rush our hike or our time at the pool and still got to enjoy white water rafting (it was just pushed back one day).

while walking back from dinner the night before we had seen this super cute doughnut stand that we wanted to try, but we were so stuffed from dinner to even think about dessertor dessert. we decided we were going to eat it for breakfast the next day and that is exactly what we did! we got about one dozen mini doughnuts and some fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade and enjoyed it on a bench before heading on our hike. these doughnuts were absolutely amazing! seriously the best doughnuts ever! i even surprised handsome by buying some more after dinner for dessert during our gondola ride to the other side of the mountain.

handsome had researched different hiking locations in the area and decided on a trail that takes you to bridal veil falls, the tallest waterfall in colorado. you cannot see it, but behind handomes head is the waterfall were we planned on ending our hike.

the scenery was absolutely beautiful and there were multiple spots where we had to cross over smaller waterfalls. the huge waterfall was absolutely gorgeous and the water was freezing cold! you could feel the water from very far away. i was hoping to be able to play in the water, but it was way too intense. and also looked very dangerous. we decided to hike up near the top of the falls, where he proposed!

for some reason i was extremely frightened to cross this weird bridge thing. i would like to blame it on the fact that i was wearing my ring that cannot get wet. too much pressure! dont worry though, i made it across just fine, it just took much longer than a normal person!

one of the weirdest moments of the trip was when we got to our room and wanted to eat our leftovers from the night before for lunch. our room did not have a microwave so we put our food in the sun to try and warm it up a bit. handsome decided to call the front desk to see if there was a microwave somewhere in the hotel that we could use. there was not. instead, they insisted on bringing a microwave to our room! it was so crazy. handsome told them not to bring one up, but they brought it up anyway and, thank goodness, we werent charged for it! it made our meal much more delicious!

after lunch we headed down to the pool to relax, get some sun and cool off. we only had about one hour to enjoy it before we had to start getting ready for the wine festival.

the wine festival was very different than i was expecting and i loved it! there were multiple locations with tents that had many different wineries inside. you would just go from table to table and tell them what you wanted to try or tell them what kind of wine you normally like and they would suggest an option for you. the first tent we went to had our favorite wines of the night. another tent even had lots of different whiskeys to try! handsome took advantage of that one, i knew i would not be able to handle it. after the tents, we walked down the main street of telluride and went into different stores that were participating in the wine tasting. i enjoyed the tents more than the stores only because the stores got very crowded.

we did not purchase any wine, but we did purchase some delicious basil parmesan oil for dipping bread. it is super delicious! i think we ate it everyday for the next week!

one of the wine tastings was in a super cute bookstore called between the sheets. the exciting thing about this place is that we bought our first coffee table book here! we read some of it in the store and found it humorous and decided we would need it for our future coffee table. i left it in denver and cannot remember the name of it, unfortunately.

once the wine tasting ended (it really should have lasted longer because we didnt even make it to half of the locations!) we decided to have dinner at a cute italian restaurant that we found the night before called rustico ristorante. what caught our eye about it was the large patio area they had for dining. since the weather was so nice and the mountains were so beautiful, i wanted to be outside where we could enjoy everything.

the wine list at this restaurant was ridiculous. as in the prices were through the roof! the first crazy price i noticed was $500 (handsome wouldnt even believe me), but there were many that were far worse than that! the couple next to us was super nice and let us know which bottle they got because it was cheap (cheap being $45, cheapest on the menu) and they liked it. we laughed together at the prices and were glad that we found other people who did not think the prices were normal.

handsome ordered linguini that had lots of vegetables and i ordered spinach gnocci. i loved my gnocci! handsome liked my gnocci more than his noodles, but i still believe he enjoyed his meal. honestly, i remember enjoying our dinner together more than i remember how the food tasted. i think it is safe to say that it was the best engagement dinner ever!

we ended up being antisocial after dinner and headed back to the hotel instead of out to the bars because i wanted to see the sunset while on the gondola. we forgot our wineglasses at the restaurant and ended up almost missing the sunset while handsome went back to find them, but he made it back right in time! it was so beautiful! we tried to take a photo of it, but it did not come out for some reason.

this was seriously the best day ever. every time i think about it i cant help but smile! i am super lucky that i get to spend my life with the most amazing guy and have the most amazing adventures together forever!
