handsome had talked with the front desk weeks before our trip about them setting up white water rafting for us on saturday morning. the front desk ended up failing at that, but it ended up working out better than we originally planned because we did not have to rush our hike or our time at the pool and still got to enjoy white water rafting (it was just pushed back one day).
while walking back from dinner the night before we had seen this super cute doughnut stand that we wanted to try, but we were so stuffed from dinner to even think about dessertor dessert. we decided we were going to eat it for breakfast the next day and that is exactly what we did! we got about one dozen mini doughnuts and some fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade and enjoyed it on a bench before heading on our hike. these doughnuts were absolutely amazing! seriously the best doughnuts ever! i even surprised handsome by buying some more after dinner for dessert during our gondola ride to the other side of the mountain.
handsome had researched different hiking locations in the area and decided on a trail that takes you to bridal veil falls, the tallest waterfall in colorado. you cannot see it, but behind handomes head is the waterfall were we planned on ending our hike.
the scenery was absolutely beautiful and there were multiple spots where we had to cross over smaller waterfalls. the huge waterfall was absolutely gorgeous and the water was freezing cold! you could feel the water from very far away. i was hoping to be able to play in the water, but it was way too intense. and also looked very dangerous. we decided to hike up near the top of the falls, where he proposed!
for some reason i was extremely frightened to cross this weird bridge thing. i would like to blame it on the fact that i was wearing my ring that cannot get wet. too much pressure! dont worry though, i made it across just fine, it just took much longer than a normal person!
one of the weirdest moments of the trip was when we got to our room and wanted to eat our leftovers from the night before for lunch. our room did not have a microwave so we put our food in the sun to try and warm it up a bit. handsome decided to call the front desk to see if there was a microwave somewhere in the hotel that we could use. there was not. instead, they insisted on bringing a microwave to our room! it was so crazy. handsome told them not to bring one up, but they brought it up anyway and, thank goodness, we werent charged for it! it made our meal much more delicious!
after lunch we headed down to the pool to relax, get some sun and cool off. we only had about one hour to enjoy it before we had to start getting ready for the wine festival.
the wine festival was very different than i was expecting and i loved it! there were multiple locations with tents that had many different wineries inside. you would just go from table to table and tell them what you wanted to try or tell them what kind of wine you normally like and they would suggest an option for you. the first tent we went to had our favorite wines of the night. another tent even had lots of different whiskeys to try! handsome took advantage of that one, i knew i would not be able to handle it. after the tents, we walked down the main street of telluride and went into different stores that were participating in the wine tasting. i enjoyed the tents more than the stores only because the stores got very crowded.
we did not purchase any wine, but we did purchase some delicious basil parmesan oil for dipping bread. it is super delicious! i think we ate it everyday for the next week!
one of the wine tastings was in a super cute bookstore called between the sheets. the exciting thing about this place is that we bought our first coffee table book here! we read some of it in the store and found it humorous and decided we would need it for our future coffee table. i left it in denver and cannot remember the name of it, unfortunately.
once the wine tasting ended (it really should have lasted longer because we didnt even make it to half of the locations!) we decided to have dinner at a cute italian restaurant that we found the night before called
rustico ristorante. what caught our eye about it was the large patio area they had for dining. since the weather was so nice and the mountains were so beautiful, i wanted to be outside where we could enjoy everything.
the wine list at this restaurant was ridiculous. as in the prices were through the roof! the first crazy price i noticed was $500 (handsome wouldnt even believe me), but there were many that were far worse than that! the couple next to us was super nice and let us know which bottle they got because it was cheap (cheap being $45, cheapest on the menu) and they liked it. we laughed together at the prices and were glad that we found other people who did not think the prices were normal.
handsome ordered linguini that had lots of vegetables and i ordered spinach gnocci. i loved my gnocci! handsome liked my gnocci more than his noodles, but i still believe he enjoyed his meal. honestly, i remember enjoying our dinner together more than i remember how the food tasted. i think it is safe to say that it was the best engagement dinner ever!
we ended up being antisocial after dinner and headed back to the hotel instead of out to the bars because i wanted to see the sunset while on the gondola. we forgot our wineglasses at the restaurant and ended up almost missing the sunset while handsome went back to find them, but he made it back right in time! it was so beautiful! we tried to take a photo of it, but it did not come out for some reason.
this was seriously the best day ever. every time i think about it i cant help but smile! i am super lucky that i get to spend my life with the most amazing guy and have the most amazing adventures together forever!
love.
